Project Hope Horse Welfare have over 180 horses in long term care all over Victoria.
Many thanks go out to all our wonderful members that have taken on the role of caring for 1 or more of these beautiful equines who had
fallen on bad times and just needed someone to love them for being them.
We do not sell horses or adopt them out, they remain a Project Hope horse. This is of great benefit to the new owner and the welfare of the horse. For example, should an owner’s circumstances change, and they can no longer care for their Project Hope horse, they can contact us and we will rehome the horse.
We take the utmost care to perfectly match our horses and ponies with their new owner to ensure all are set for a happy, long and bright future together.

Born in 2015 this little pony x mare came into Project Hope care.
She is currently living a great life with one of our members and has been out on the trails.

Abella is a Qtr horse X mare with a beautiful bay coat and standing at 14.3hh.
Coming into Project Hope care, Abella has now found herself in a lovely long term care home with Sharon as a companion horse.
Sharon tells us that Abella is a real sweetie, super clever and very curious and she just loves her treats.
Alex is a mixed breed gelding with a bay coat and stands at 13hh, he was only a foal when he came into Project Hope.
He has found his long term care home with Kim who describes him as fantastic!

15hh Amie is a Chestnut thoroughbred mare.
In 2016 Amie was surrendered to Project Hope and was lucky enough to find a long term carer Tara.
She no longer has to race and can enjoy her days out in the field.
HOME FOUND
Amiira is a bay Arabian mare standing at approximately 14.2hh and believed to be in
her late teens.
Her past is largely unknown. She is wary of people and quite flighty.
Thanks to a PH member Amiira has now found her long term care home.

Angel is an Arab/Qtr Horse with liver chestnut colouring and she stands at 14hh.
Her carer Anne describes that in the beginning there were some bumpy times and behavioural issues but with training guidance, Angel has
become an absolute delight.
She is great in the arena with cowboy dressage and has a comfortable working jog, soft lope and fantastic transitions.
Applejack is a mixed breed mare standing at 12.2hh and a chestnut coat with a blaze down her nose and a flaxen mane.
Apples as she is informally known has taken a while to find her long term carer and she is now with Mark and no doubt being spoilt.

Introducing Aster a 12-year-old, 15 hh Chestnut Arabian X gelding.
Little is known of
his history. He has had little handling for the past 6 years, was initially underweight, infested with lice and wary of people
- especially being approached past his head or from above.
His first hoof trims, teeth float, vet check and vaccinations have all been completed.
Furthermore, he has gained weight well. Since settling in has become accustomed to other animals, nearby traffic, the carer and some other
people.
Aster is gentle but nervous, and he seems to have some knowledge / memory of basic groundwork. He can now be easily caught and groomed, and
he leads and ties up well.
He has been good with the farrier on two occasions but still consolidating the handling of his back legs.
Aster is curious and calm with other horses. He has a kind nature and is a fast learner.
With improving connections it is possible for him to be calm with people in general rather than only with his main carer.
He is comfortable in his body and bright and alert.
Athenrai is a Welsh B X gelding with bay colouring and stands at 14.2hh.
Rai came to Project Hope back in 2016 and has now found his long term carer at Courtney's.
He spends his days being a companion to Kye who is 29 years old.
Aurelia is 12 - 13hh brown mare pony.
Her carer Elizabeth describes her as easy going to look after, she never gets injured, never has anything go wrong and she's just an amazing pony.
Aurora is a Thoroughbred X Welsh pony mare standing at 15hh and a lovely brown coat with a blaze running down her nose.
She has recently had an acute case of laminitis and her vet and farrier have decided some shoes might help with the thin soles.
Ava is a Arab chestnut mare who stands at 15hh.
Coming into Project Hope from a deceased estate, Ava really landed on her feet.
She did have some issues with tying up and when her feeds was analysed it was decided to remove oaten chaff and all grain from her diet.
Ava has progressed onwards since and now does working equitation, extreme cowgirl, dressage and trail riding.
Axl is a Qtr horse X TB gelding with a bay coat and standing at 15hh.
He is just the sweetest boy.
Introducing Aztec a 14-year-old Bay Thoroughbred, 15.3hh.
Aztec was one of three horses that PHHWV took in as part of an unwanted surrendered livestock in the Golden Plains Shire early 2023.
Not to often we have ridden horses and Aztec is ready for his new home, rider and horse pal in his paddock. Aztec has been with his current
carer for almost 2 years and during that time assessments were done by his carer with the assistance of a professional trainer-Ian
Shaw, and he noted that he is a quick learner and his rides on him out in the forest found him to be a suitable pleasure riding horse.
Unfortunately, his carer has had ongoing shoulder issues and can no longer ride. It has been 18 months since his last ride. He is good in
group riding situations and stays pretty calm. He is protective of his feed so keep a respectful distance from other horses.
Furthermore, he floats well – no scramble or kicking - the last times he just walked on. He can be a bit fidgety for the farrier but
with more groundwork and a farrier that works with you will make it a better outcome.
Aztec is in good health all up to date with vacinations, worming, dental etc. He is really a lovely horse and one that has been a pleasure
to have in our community of horses.
Last week one of our committee members went up for a ride and this is what she had to say – Aztec is a lovely boy. For no riding
in 18 months, he was good (enough) at walk and trot. He has considerable separation issues. But he did so well...
Aztec has now found a new LTC home
Aztec is a Thoroughbred bay gelding of 15hh.
He never raced and was left abandoned, Project Hope picked him from a local Shire.
Aztec now gets to spend his days eating hay.
Banjo is 10hh black gelded miniature.
He came into Project Hope with neglected feet and his short term carer and farrier got to work.
Banjo now is out pain lives with 3 other tiny ponies.
Beamer is a black gelded miniature.
He spends his days with 2 other Project Hope horses Georgia & Peanut
Beau is a Arab X Flea bitten grey gelding standing at 14.2hh.
He takes things pretty easy these days now that he is 28 years old.
Belgrave is Thoroughbred gelding with chestnut colour and 17hh.
He is new comer to Project Hope and is enjoying being given a second chance.
Belle is a 15hh mare Paint horse.
She came into Project Hope back in 2015 and enjoys her days with carer Bec.
Introducing Bellebutton is an 8-year-old, 16.1hh bay Thoroughbred mare.
Bellebutton is a sensible, intelligent mare with a very sweet nature, she is curious and loves to connect and follow you around, she loves
her cuddles. She would make an excellent companion and would also be suitable for inhand liberty work or obstacles. She is up-to-date with
all her dental work, vaccinations and trimming.
Bellebutton was never registered to race as she sustained an injury to her nearside hind leg as a foal. Although paddock sound, there is no guarantee she would remain sound with constant work under saddle, she would be ok with the occasional walk.

He is new to Project Hope when he came into care in 2022.
Bentley is 16.2hh Clydesdale X bay gelding.
He spends his time with 3 other Project Hope horses as a companion.

Black Swan is you guessed it - black. She is a 9hh Shetland mare.
She was described as being a little wild when she was in short term care due to not being handled.
With dedication and work from our carer, Black Swan has progressed to now wanting contact.
A long term care home has now been found for this little swan.
Introducing Blackie a 9-year-old black/brown mule approx. 11hh.
Blackie was part of a surrender involving another mule and a pony. He was an entire only up to a few months ago and has little or no
handling.
He does require a very experienced and knowledgeable home that understands mules. Likewise, he also needs to stay with his pony friend ,
they will not be split up.
Boss is a12.2hh gelded liver chestnut Australian Pony.
He was registered with a fancy name Mystic Park Tiny Dancer but unfortunately was left abandoned on council land.
Boss now enjoys his time with carer Loretta.
Bruce is a 14hh dark bay / brown gelded Welsh B X.
He was born into Project Hope when his mum had been surrendered.
This darling boy will never know the hardships his equine friends have endured.
Buck stands around the 15.5hh and is gelded Buckskin Stockhorse.
At 25 years old, Buck is one of our older horses in care.

Bunny is a 9hh black gelded mini Shetland.
This does not stop him trying to get to the feed.
Campaspe isa 15.3hh TBxSB brown gelding.
He came into Project Hope with little known of his skills.
With some training accomplished he is now doing well as a ridden horse.
Candy is a 13hh chestnut mare Australian Pony.
She has a beautiful blaze running down her face.
HOME FOUND
Introducing Captain Carrot but just Captain to us. He is 25 years old (young) Strawberry Roan 9hh a kind, friendly boy who
enjoys interacting with people (and carrots!).
He is easy to catch, trim and handle and can be led by children.He is used to dogs and not phased by loud vehicles-tractors etc.
Furthermore, he actually loves a cuddle around the head and neck.
The only thing you need to take care with him is brushing him under his belly around his sheath, go slowly and carefully when grooming this
area.
Star - 10 y old, 11hh Bay, Mare is bright and inquisitive but prefers not to be rushed, and she will come to you.
She was nervous when she first came in but with regular handling and learning to turn to look toward you, she has relaxed and built trust.
She is easy to catch, brush and trim and shows affection.
However, she can frighten easily with sudden movements around her, hence she is not to be around children and supervised with people
unfamiliar with horses.
She is a wonderful paddock mate.

Caramel is a 13.3hh mixed breed mare with chestnut taffy colouring.
She is full of life and joy to have around.
Casper is a Qtr horse X gelding who stands 15hh with grey coat.
He has just recently had some eye surgery and is doing great.

Caviar is 16hh Standardbred black mare.
She spends her time with PH Lulu and their carer Geoff.
Caviar has come along way from being standoffish to loving a scratch.

Cedrick is a 16hh Grey gelded Standardbred.
He was extremely underweigh when he arrived at Project Hope but is now on his way back.
Tender loving care, lots of feed and a bath all help.
Charcoal is a 13.2hh gelded grey Welsh Pony X.
He spends his time with 3 other Project Hope horses, Echo, Bentley & LuLu
Charlie Brown is a 16.1hh brown gelded Thoroughbred.
He is now 27 years old and his racing days are now over and he is with long term carer Leanne.

Cisco is a gelded chestnut X Breed.
He has a lovely white blaze and spends his time with another PH horse Doc and carer Chryssa.
Cleopatra is a 14.2hh grey Arab mare.
She recently moved homes into long term care and now enjoys time with carer Sarah.
Cloud is a grey Appaloosa mare standing at 15hh.
This lady is now 23 years old and spends her time as a companion to another horse Skye.
Cressy is Standardbred X bay mare standing at 14.3hh.
She was surrendered along with 4 other horses and now has a home with Shan.
Crumpet is an 8hh gelded mini Shetland with Chestnut / Paint markings.
And isn't he just a little crumpet.

Introducing Curtis and Priscilla, 2 miniatures who have been together for many years.
Curtis is a white 9.2hh gelding in his late teens. Due to his pink pigmentation,
he is going to need a fly mask a lot to prevent sun damage to his eyes which causes weeping.
He is in good condition but not trusting of people. He is getting better with daily handling but will still occasionally try to bite or
kick.
He appears to have had some head trauma as he does not like handling around his head area but once again this is improving with regular
gentle handling.
For this reason it is recommended that he is not around children.
Priscilla is a white mare standing at 9.2hh and approx 12-year-old.
She is easy to handle and reports from the previous owner is that she was great with kids. This is yet to be confirmed.
Priscilla can be a little bit bossy over Curtis at feed time and this appears to be her only vice.

She has come along way and is doing great with her carer Kelly.
Goose, a delightful 9-year-old flaxen chestnut mixed breed pony gelding standing at 13.3hh. Goose is currently available for a
long-term lease as a paddock companion, through no fault of his own. Known for his affectionate nature, Goose demonstrates his fondness for
his paddock mates through attentive grooming and a caring demeanor. He interacts gently with children and warmly greets visitors at the
gate. Goose exhibits a calm disposition around various animals, machinery like tractors and mowers, and remains composed in unfamiliar
situations. While he does not partake in riding activities, he readily approaches for haltering, leads easily, and behaves well for the
farrier. It's worth noting that Goose faces challenges with floating and requires patient handling during this procedure, reacting poorly
to haste or harsh words. Ideally placed in a household with experienced yet compassionate caregivers, Goose may display occasional
stubbornness, particularly during tasks he dislikes, such as worming. Monitoring his diet is crucial, as he tends to gain weight easily,
although tests indicate his resilience to metabolic conditions. Despite his quirks, maintaining Goose's contentment is relatively straightforward, making him an excellent companion for both equine partners and families.
Hank stands at 13hh Chestnut gelding Quarter horse.
He was a twin and was born with disabilities, he has a wonky leg and wither, he mobilses himself quite well but not in a straight line.
Hank spends his days being a companion to a Warmblood.
Harmony is Arab X Chestnut mare standing at 14hh.
She is a companion horse to PH Ava.
Honey stands at 13.2hh and is a Mixed pony Chestnut mare.

Lillith was part of a surrender involving two mules. We believe that she has had exposure to handling and maybe even being ridden at some
stage. It is important that she stays with her mule friend and will not be split up.

Introducing Maggie May, a 12-year-old, 13.2hh Bay/Taffy pony mare.
Maggie May has been with us since March 2019, and we got her as a non-ridden companion pony.
In that time, she has been the perfect companion pony. Happy to be kept in a paddock with other horses, but just as happy to be in her own
paddock.
She also has no issues when the other horse has been removed from her paddock, or when horses are taken away from the property for periods
of time, or even if a couple of others have been taken away, and she is completely alone.
She is very good to get her feet and teeth done, and we worm her every three months.
She can be a little wary around the top of her head if it is being touched, but you can put a halter on her and also a fly veil with no
issues.
Furthermore, she loves cuddles and of course, loves treats!
Maggie May does have a back injury from before she came to live with us, which is the main reason we were told she is not to be ridden.
She does occasionally get a stiff movement in her back legs after standing for a while but once she takes a step or two the stiffness
disappears, and this has never seemed to cause her any discomfort.

Her age is unknown at present, but will be determined upon dental check.
She enjoys interacting with people and is comfortable being handled, including having her feet picked up.
MaySu has only recently come into care and will shortly be having her feet done and a vet examination.

Introducing Netty is a 15-year-old 15hh Bay Clydie X mare.
She is progressing with her rehabilitation while losing some weight, and she has all her health needs attended to -
dental/farrier etc.
Netty went to be assessed and is being a managed as a green-started horse despite her being started somewhere in her life.
Good on ground and very responsive to voice.
Need to consolidate the bridling and work under saddle.
It appears that she was not mouthed correctly at the start and this is being addressed by the trainer.
Certainly a lovely mare that has a future with a knowledgeable home.

Olivia is 13.2hh White Welsh Pony mare.
She spends her days helping at Riding Disabled Australia.

Introducing Paris is a 15hh, 17-year-old, brown Standardbred mare.
Paris is not a ridden horse and seeks to be part of a mob that will always have horse/s with her to keep her company. Paris has a
fantastic and gentle disposition and loves being around people.
She enjoys being groomed and is well-behaved for the farrier.
Furthermore, she is good to catch, tie up and worm. Paris is not fazed by cars, tractors and dogs.
All what Paris asks for is to be part of a family that will have her in with her paddock mates and be happy.

When she arrived, Scarlett’s background was unknown. Early observations noted assertiveness and anxiety.
But underlying there was an intelligence and willingness to learn. Scarlett spent time at Wendy's Horsmanship & Obstacle ranch showing us what she knew about obstacles from the ground.
She then spent time witlh Brad West at Wild West Horsmanship training being assessed as a riding horse.
Scarlett spent 4 weeks with Brad where she regained her confidence under saddle and although initially a little tense, reacted well when
ridden in the bush, on the road side and in the paddock with other horses.
Now Scarlett has found her LTC home - we know she will excel.

Scout has found his long term care home and we will update with his progress over the next couple of months.

She was with Project Hope for many years and truly loved before she passed.
